Effective immediately, due to the dangers of COVID-19 and a family member with a compromised immune system, Animal Wonders WILL NOT VISIT ANY FACILITY THAT DOES NOT ENFORCE OR IS LOCATED IN A COMMUNITY THAT DOES NOT HAVE OR CHOOSES NOT TO ENFORCE A MASK MANDATE. We will only enter your facility IF EVERY ADULT IS WEARING A MASK OR PROTECTIVE SHIELD - NO EXCEPTIONS. These are difficult times and WE SUPPORT and STAND WITH SCIENCE. The science is clear and the evidence is solid..., MASKS SAVE LIVES. It is not a political statement, it is for our safety, your safety, and the safety of your and our loved ones. You'll have to explain to your students why your local government rejects science, it's their fault, not ours. We fully condemn the actions of the Holden, Missouri city council and mayor in rejecting the mandate. We are embarrassed and ashamed of our town's leaders and residents with their handling of this crisis that has taken so much from so many. I do promise to other communities that we visit, that we will limit our exposure in our town as much possible to keep you safe. To ensure continued safety of our students and scouts, Varick and I are scheduled to be tested for COVID and its antibodies.

We showed the Laysan Teal to Troop 1626 in Olathe. Spoke of how trees in Kansas City used to have beautiful, chattering & playful parakeets. I always hope nights like these spark a fire in the next generation to make a difference, because our predecessors sure failed us. Extinction is forever.

We've GOT THIS! Hey, Girl Scouts... we are SO EXCITED to share a BRAND NEW patch program made possible by our friends at CommunityAmerica Credit Union and speci...al support from an expert at Children's Mercy. The COVID Pandemic is hard on all us - seeing loved ones get sick, going to virtual school, going to hybrid school, not being able to see family and friends and not being able to do the activities and take the trips planned. It's tough, but brighter days are ahead and WE'VE GOT THIS TOGETHER. This new patch program provides helpful tools to support girls and the whole family during this difficult time. We especially love this program because teens (interns with CommunityAmerica) take the lead in sharing the resources. At the end of this program, you can purchase this super cool patch and there's a special gift for some of the first participants! You can download all the details and get started at www.gsksmo.org/GotThis. We are releasing the Daisy, Brownie & Junior programs tonight. Cadettes and up will come in the next week to two weeks. Help us share and we can't wait to hear what you think!! See more

It is unusual to enter an eBird checklist and not have at least one Cardinal around here.

Happy World Rainforest Awareness Week! The Rainforest is one of the "lungs" of the Earth. More than 20 percent of the world oxygen comes for the Amazon Rainfor...est! It is made up of 4 defined layers. The FOREST FLOOR - Lowest layer - little light - less plants - things decay fast here - home to tapirs and anteaters The UNDERSTORY - smaller trees and plants that require less light - heaviest concentration of insects - home to tree climbing animals like jaguars, margays, monkeys & snakes The CANOPY - The main layer of a tropical rainforest - Food is plentiful here - The dense trees and vines allow animals to use this layer without ever needing the ground. - home to many animals including sloths & toucans The EMERGENT LAYER - Oversized trees 150-250 feet tall tower over all - bright sunlight - home to howler monkeys, bats, butterflies & harpy eagles 2021 PEPPERMINT NARWHAL ANIMAL HOLIDAY CALENDAR On Sale Now!: https://etsy.me/2F2TGGK Stay up on over 250 other Animal, Nature and Conservation Holidays. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared the Eastern black rail a threatened species on Wednesday, but stopped short of the stronger protections some environmentalists were seeking for the elusive bird, now imperiled by habitat destruction, sea level rise, and the increasing frequency and intensity of storms with climate change.

On Aug. 6, 2020, the world’s first successfully cloned Przewalski’s horse was born in Texas at the veterinary facility of a ViaGen Equine collaborator, Timber Creek Veterinary. The foal, born to a domestic surrogate mother, is a clone of a male Przewalski’s horse whose DNA was cryopreserved 40 years ago at the San Diego Zoo Global (SDZG) Frozen Zoo. The colt’s birth revives genetic diversity that had been lost to the world and has now been recovered due to this important partnership between Revive & Restore, ViaGen Equine and San Diego Zoo Global. http://www.inparkmagazine.com/sdzg-przewalski-horse-clone/
