Our January Digital Debut is live!!! We seriously couldn’t be more excited about (@bugaboo_eyes) Adrienne Eliades' work! Her porcelain surfaces pop with color and mesmerizing patterns. They are truly smile-inducing. Adrienne's work is available online (BelgerArts.org) and in the gallery!

Hi, it’s @coletonlunt again. In grad school I made installation work. Formally I was inspired by 1960s Yayoi Kusama and Mark Dion’s natural history sets. Conceptually I was most inspired by the Chthonic ones, a term Donna Haraway coined in her book Staying with the Trouble. Chthonic ones are beings of the earth, both ancient and up-to-the- minute. I imagine chthonic ones as replete with tentacles, feelers, dig- its, cords, whiptails, spider legs, and very unruly hair. Ch...thonic ones romp in multicritter humus but have no truck with sky-gazing Homo. Chthonic ones are monsters in the best sense; they demonstrate and perform the material meaningfulness of earth processes and critters. They also demonstrate and perform consequences. Chthonic ones are not safe; they have no truck with ideologues; they belong to no one; they writhe and luxuriate in manifold forms and manifold names in all the airs, waters, and places of earth. They make and unmake; they are made and unmade. Today would be the 84th birthday of the late William Christenberry. We lost Bill a couple of years ago, but his spirit lives on through an incredible body of work. A survey of Bill's work kicked off the Belger Arts Center 20 years. Tomorrow night we begin a five month run of "William Christenberry: Tracing Time," featuring more than 90 works of art, all from the Belger Collection. We are beyond proud to present "Tracing Time", an exhibition of William Christenberry's work spanning about 40 years of his career. A storyteller at heart, Christenberry's paintings explore the effects of mankind and nature on the landscape, revealing a poignant perspective on the passage of time and chronicle the life cycle of a place. Opening is this First Friday, Nov. 6 from 6-9pm at 2100 Walnut Street, KCMO. Ideas and things are interpreted differently based on our experience and assumptions. This impacts and reflects how things become symbols and what meaning is held. This experience of living in different places and cultures energizes my interest in concepts of representation, movement, and ...distortion. What exists around us and what is inside us is influential to me as I aim to explore the iconography of things and objecthood. Hello, My name is ChengOu Yu @yu_chengou , I’m the new studio Foundation Residents here at Belger Crane Yard Studios! I recently received my MFA degree in ceramic art from Alfred University. It is a such challenging time to graduate during this global pandemic while we lose all the studio access since late march. I’m so grateful and thrilled to have been chosen as one of the residents and been able to continue my research and practice. I will share some of my works completed ...in the past two years and the source of inspirations. The influence of the pot is significant in my practice, I see the pot as an icon/sign that holds the history it carries, the meaning it contains and the concept It potentially delivers. This interest in iconography lays the foundation of my sculpture making. I use symbolic form to unfold and create meanings. Displayed above are images of me working on the latest piece (photo taken by @coletonlunt ); the sculpture currently shown at @fosdick_nelson Gallery at Alfred University; and the last image is the corner of my studio with all the new pieces I made in the past two months at Belger. Hi again humans, AMYoung (@shes_a_carver) here again. As someone with weird circadian rhythms I find myself getting to studio as the sun is going down and staying until it almost rises again. I find lighting and certain times of day to be incredibly inspirational in my work and thought I'd share some glimpses into the beauty I've been collecting throughout my nights in studio. From blinding twilight to muted city scapes, and especially the way the large studio windows at ni...ght allow us to look over an entire city but still reflect everything happening within, it's in those in between and overlapping moments that I find most compelling. They are often what inspires the surfaces in my sculpted works.
