LOCAL EFFORTS ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN DRUG DROP OFF EVENT On Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to one of the sites listed below. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or... sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines stored in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicinesflushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trashboth pose potential safety and health hazards. FREE Drug Disposal Drop-Off will be available at: Bellefontaine Neighbors City Hall 9641 Bellefontaine Road St. Louis , Mo 63137 October 23, 2021, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m
Drowning is a silent killer. Victims struggling to swim do not have the breath to yell for help and often go underwater unnoticed. #StopTheDrownings #WaterSafety #PleaseWearIt

Natural waterways may look inviting on the surface, but there are hidden dangers lurking beneath. Those dark waters are hiding shallow water, logs, rocks and strong currents. #StopTheDrownings #WaterSafety #PleaseWearIt

Yes, it is getting colder. Yes, no one enjoys getting into a cold car, with a cold seat, and a cold steering wheel. Yes, no one enjoys sitting and waiting in the car while it warms up. The alternative is not to start your car and leave it unattended while you go back into your warm home to wait for it to rise to a comfortable temperature. Theft is a crime of opportunity - an opportunity that, more times than not, is created by vehicle owners. Regardless if you have remote start and a kill switch, do not leave your vehicle unattended for thieves to take. You are responsible for taking the first step in reducing car theft in our community.
