We still have space available if you would like to join us for our annual FREE community meal on Thanksgiving day. There's also room for a few more volunteers for the event. For this year's meal we are preparing sage spiced oat loaf, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, fresh green bean casserole, salad with fig balsamic dressing, chocolate covered pumpkin bites, and hot apple cider. Thanksgiving is coming! The café will be closed for regular business in observance of the holiday, and we will be serving our yearly FREE Community Meal to celebrate our community (that's YOU!) and to give thanks This year we are asking that people make reservations, both to support us in honoring social distancing guidelines and to help us to have prepared an appropriate quantity of food for the day #nofoodwaste . Nature is creative. Stand in the middle of a forest and you can see for yourself. Consider that nature, the force that brings diversity and life to a forest, is the same force that brings people to life. Notice that spontaneous movement and expansion are expressions of Nature. A flower bud opens, a leaf falls, a tiger stretches in the sun. It’s the same with us human beings. When we are living without blocks, we humans naturally grow like weeds (in a good way). We move, ex...plore, develop and grow. Similarly, we are free in our sexuality, which is an essential aspect of our nature and of all nature. By sexuality we don't mean gender or only a physical connection. A lived experience of sexuality is one of intimacy with life. Whether physically, empathically, mentally or spiritually, when we are free to give and receive, we are free to feel and be intimate with life. When we do this we are available to be part of the creativity of Nature. The creativity that is our fundamental nature is spontaneous. Said another way, true creativity emerges from silence and stillness. A flower does not have a reason or justification for blooming, it just blooms. As human beings we possess a unique capacity to override (or at least attempt to override) the spontaneity of creation, in favor of the personal aims and ideals of the ego. But when we set aside our knowing better attitudes and beliefs, and we allow ourselves to rest and relax in silence and stillness, we become available to be accessed by the spontaneously creative Nature that is our truest nature. Having exhausted or set aside all the avenues we know to pursue, we experience an opening where creativity has a chance to burst forth. Often we shut down or block ourselves off and become unwilling in life. A common example of this can be seen in how we so rigidly hold onto our opinions and justifications. And most commonly, we can be found being righteous about our views of the world or of ourselves. Being righteous causes us to close ourselves off and become no longer available for giving and receiving. Trust Trust and safety are critical to establishing a foundation from which to build our life. If we experience a break in our sense of safety and trust, or we lose it entirely, we may find ourselves uneasy, searching for a ground where we can open up to life again. Trust and Safety get displaced, put "over there", as somewhere to get to, something to strive for. When we continue to try and find Trust and Safety in various circumstances in our life, we can find temporary rep...rieve but we don't find any real satisfaction. The best we can do is build a moat around ourselves to protect us from life. Ultimately, the discovery of trust and safety happens "here". As we look at ourselves, if we muster the courage to see and express ourselves authentically (firstly to ourselves, and then when we are ready, to others) we become utterly vulnerable. Ironically, when we embody vulnerability in this way, we finally find our security. Security doesn't lie in any circumstance, it exists as our nature. And as we discover this ourselves, and let go of the moat we have built around ourselves, we return to finding the world as our home. The trust and safety we look for is ourselves. Hello Kansas City Cafe Gratitude Fans! First, thank you for all the love and support you have shown us during this time. You have helped us navigate this pandemic through your continued support. Truly thank you. I'm about to become a dad and having the cafe be successful during this time has been a blessing, and it means more than I could say to know that my new family is supported. We've been balancing resting and rejuvenating during this pandemic and looking at what we can ...offer our community. We've come up with some new programs that we will be revealing over the next couple of weeks. The first new offering is our Living Well Cleanse.
