A message from the Chief: Over the past few weeks, I have been providing instruction to our staff on Procedural Justice, a topic that's emerging in its importan...ce to community-based crime prevention. The concept of Procedural Justice is built on including four important pillars into each interaction with the public: Fairness Voice - allowing everyone to be heard Impartiality Transparency Using these pillars, we can build and maintain trust with the community, one interaction at a time. Procedural Justice isn't a new concept. Good police officers have been using these practices for a long time. It just has a name now, and it's being reinforced with formal training. Procedural Justice is just one of many training programs our officers receive to support their effectiveness and professionalism. Look for additional posts about other training programs in the future. Happy New Year! Mark J. Smith Chief of Police

The City of Clayton recognizes the complicated history of our region, which includes the celebration of some histories and erasure of others. The Mayor’s Commemorative Landscape Task Force (Task Force) is considering the historical representation of our commemorative landscape and evaluating whether commemorative objects can be interpreted to honor bigotry, discrimination, racism and/or slavery, and perpetuate exclusion. Additionally, the Task Force will be considering recommendations to add or amend commemorative objects, which honor the parts of history that have been misrepresented or excluded. The Task Force invites you to share your voice by completing and submitting a form at www.claytonmo.gov/changerequest. The Task Force will review submissions on a continued basis during its monthly meetings.

In the past month, the CPD has seen an increase in reports of bicycles stolen from our community. Bicycles aren't just for recreation & transportation. They're ...often an investment. Help us prevent these thefts by adding your bike & other recreational equipment to your #9pmRoutine: -When possible, secure your bike in a locked garage or inside your home. -In public or shared spaces, use a properly secured U-Lock or heavy duty chain lock. Safety experts recommend placing the U-lock around the rear rim & tire, inside the rear triangle of the frame. -Keep a record of your bicycle's serial numbers, purchase price, etc. & take a photo for reference.
