Why it’s harder for women to lose fat than men 1. Muscle & Metabolism- having more muscle helps the body burn more calories or creates a higher metabolism. Men generally have more muscle mass than women so their metabolism is 3-10% higher than women’s. BUT ladies- we can add muscle to our bodies and permanently boost our metabolisms too! Thus giving you the ability or even requirement to eat more food! 2. Exercise Choice- women tend to (still) be afraid of ‘bulking ...up’ and gravitate towards cardiovascular training and only lifting light weights. Strength training is a must ladies!! It is HARD to bulk up. Go HEAVY with good form and you’ll soon build those muscles up which will help you burn more calories in the long run 3. Hormone fluctuation- there is the obvious hormone fluctuations which contributes to discomfort, pain, and mood changes once a month. This can make it extra hard to motivate yourself to go to the gym. Ladies- you are such total badasses for pushing through even during hormone fluctuations! The less obvious fluctuations- after a workout ghrelin (the I’m hungry hormone) spikes, in women. Simultaneously, leptin (tells the brain I’m full) plummets causing women to eat more than they actually need!! WHY??? Because it’s the female body’s natural way of fighting energy deficits in order to preserve fertility. Yay us!! 4. Behavioral/Emotional/Mental Differences- women are more likely to be emotional eaters and gravitate towards foods which will ignite the reward center of the brain like foods high in sugar, salt, fat, and calories. Women are more likely to take extreme measures to get back on track like skipping meals or extreme dieting which aren’t sustainable methods So ladies, here are the facts. If you want to see results you have to really commit for a period of time. At least a couple of months to make a dent in your weight loss goals. If you don’t fully commit then you won’t see a change. Sticking to a workout routine is the easy part while really watching what you’re eating is the toughest. I’ll post some tips tomorrow on how to better stay on tack! Nutrition talk and getting back on track after my competition
First place feels so good . It’s the best feeling in the world achieving my goal of taking home first place in BOTH novice and open bikini in my height class. So now what?! . Planning my next competition of course! I’m in the process of figuring out which competition to attend next. As a first placer; I am Nationally Qualified to compete for my pro status in the IFBB. I get over a year to do so. I want to bring my absolute best stage presence during my Nationals debut so ca...reful planning and preparation for my next steps are crucial.
