Hello KCA community! We are all getting very excited for the 2021 Auction + Showcase. It is shaping up to be a very fun evening that you won't want to miss! This year our showcase will be different but you will continue to see our incredible students and learn what KCA means to them. You can get your tickets here, https://one.bidpal.net/kcaauction/welcome... Our silent auction will open on February 10th. We have a lot of great auction items for you to bid on so don't miss out! This is a great opportunity to support our students' music, art, and culinary interests, raise money for our school and have a wonderful evening with our whole community! We so look forward to seeing you there!

To try and beat the chilly and snowy day we are having our culinary students are cooking up a warm ramen and spring roll meal. It looks amazing if we do say so ourselves!

Today faculty and students met virtually to discuss the events that happened last Wednesday. To help continue this discussion we have created a list of resources that you can use. Go to our blog to have access to these resources.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! The fundraiser at Soap Refill Station KC raised over $450 for Christine’s Place! We wanted to thank students, teachers, and parents who contributed artwork and volunteered to sell the art! We can’t wait to present this gift to Christine’s Place. Also, the Senior Crew would like to thank the KCA community for donating to their Adopt-A-Family through The Grooming Project! Together we were able to provide everything on the family’s ‘needs and wants’ list, plus more! We were even able to include an optometrist appointment, new eyeglasses, and a custom-made toy box for the youngest member of the family! Thank you to the entire KCA community for coming together for a family in need!

Join us tomorrow and Thursday from 10:30-5:30, when we will have handcrafted cards, small paintings, and beaded ornaments for sale at SOAP Refill Station KC. Everything will be $5. In the spirit of service and social justice, students also chose a local organization to donate all our proceeds to. All of the money our art brings in will be donated to an organization called Christine's Place, a crisis shelter for individuals recovering from trafficking situations. If you are ...in need of any cards/art/ornaments, or if you would like to support this fundraiser, please stop by Soap on the 16th or 17th (and bring your empty soap bottles to refill too!). See you there!

KCA is so proud of 11th grader Harper's new single with her No Germ Candy project! From their review on toomuchrock.com/ "Too Much Rock celebrates the tenth release in its vinyl single series alongside exciting new Kansas City duo No Germ Candy. For this project teens Zsofia Nemeth (vocals) and Harper Knecht (guitar) ignore genres entirely, building a sparkly world that tastes like cotton candy, and plays like Animal Crossing."... The article also has links to more promos by Harper!

A great way to start your week is to learn why Freshman, Zane, loves KCA and thinks it's such a special school.

Have you been wondering how KCA is adapting our unique educational community to Distance Learning? Our Culinary Program is a great example! After picking up their ingredients at school, students cook from home along with Mark as he cooks in the kitchen. Here’s a pan seared sirloin steak with caramelized onions and a lemon beurre blanc recipe prepared by a student last week! We’re so jealous of the families of culinary students who get to eat these delicious meals!... #IchooseKCA #kansascity #KCAcommunity #KCAculinary #exiledfrommainstreet

Kansas City Academy means something different to each person that’s connected to the school. Here is what it means to Martha. Did you know that only 70% of KCA’s expenses are covered by tuition? You can support people like Eva and Martha by making a contribution at kcacademy.org/donate.

Kansas City Academy joins the family of Maureen Smith and the Lorreto Community in mourning her loss. Maureen was instrumental in the founding of KCA, writing our incorporation bylaws during the summer of 1984 with the rest of our Founders. Maureen is loved and will be dearly missed.

KCA friends and family. I'm reaching out to share some very sad and unfortunate news - one of our alum family's flower shop, Westport Floral , was set on fire last Thursday morning. The shop is owned by Tammy and Greg Eldridge, Josh Eldridge's parents. Joan and Truman Eldridge, Josh's grandparents, are also long-time supporters of KCA and Westport Floral has done flowers for KCA events and appreciation and award ceremonies for a number of years. We know for sure this is a ca...se of arson, which is very troubling, but we don't have any additional information at this time. Please send some KCA love, good juju, and positive vibes their way. I know the messages of support have lifted their spirits and keep them going during this challenging time. Westport Floral https://westportfloral.com/
