Still lots of snow, still cold, but WE ARE OPEN, staff have returned.
We apologize if you've had trouble getting through on the phones, or getting scheduled. We still have one staff member out on maternity leave, and two are now under quarantine. We're still working, but with half our staff out, it's hard to keep up.
Running just a bit late, 8:30 and not home for supper, but Kobe needed surgery. He was vomiting and his X-ray looked like there might be something in his stomach. Look at the close-up. Then you can see what Tom says is Optimus Prime... and some string, and something else. It was blocking his pylorus. Big surgery.
Our client Jody Riggs is a real professional in the cookie business, and surprised us with these. I didn't get a picture before a bunch of them were eaten (and I REALLY hope those ears were broken off and not bitten off). If you want some delicious empty calories, these are great.
I regret that I'm behind on answering folks, but I had to go in for some medical tests, and was not looking at Facebook. I'm back at work, and hope to get caught up soon.
I just got to thinking that I might have sounded a little upset about all the work last week. Sure, I got tired, but I am so thankful that I have work to do and am able to do it. So many folks are stuck without it.
This has been some week. When I finished at 6:00 PM Wednesday, I felt as though I were on vacation. We ran more than 2 hours overtime the other days. That means almost 8:30pm on Tuesday and 2:30 today. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate the team here, working through lunch hours, doing what's needed, staying as long as it takes to take care of our patients. What a group!
Big shout-out to my staff again. They work hard every day, but yesterday Anna worked through lunch, Heather handled about five things at once all day, and Hannah and Meranda stayed until 7:30 for an emergency surgery. Go team!
Zoie is feeling better today. Fifteen years old and she had never been spayed. Not every older intact female develops a uterine infection, but she sure did. Her uterus should have been about the size of the little tubes in the illustration. Actual size: a little bigger.
All masks, all the time. Our quarantined staffer has a negative test, so things went a little smoother today. And... I got to hug my wife for the first time in a week. I think I missed it more than she did.
I apologize for being late in returning calls. We are down to 2 staff, due to illnesses and child-care issue. The lady working the reception desk has never done it before, so please be patient. We are working 10 to 12 hour days.
Many thanks to my sister, Leah, for running up a lot of masks for my staff and myself. She is a whiz with a sewing machine, and she did this in a hurry on short notice. I need to do something really nice for her, but I'm not good at that, so she'll probably have to give me a suggestion.
During this difficult time, we are having occasional staffing issues. In order to assure all team members (except Dr. Mobley, probably) one day off per week, we will temporarily be closing on Thursdays. We will have our normal hours otherwise. We will be calling you to reschedule your Thursday appointments.
Hello, everyone! I hope this post finds you all well. We wanted to reach out to everyone and let you know that we are monitoring the corona virus situation and are deciding how to best protect our clients as well as our staff while still taking care of your pets. With that said, we will be limiting the number of people in the waiting area. We ask that there only be 3 people in the waiting area at any particular time. If you can see that it is full, call us at 573 888 2255 and we will come out as soon as possible. We want to continue taking care of your pets, as well as making the safest choices for all of us. If you or someone close to you are sick or running fever, we ask that you not come inside. We appreciate each of you and hope you stay safe and healthy. Thank you from all of us at Kennett Veterinary Clinic.
Last week we had several cancellations due to people's concern with coronavirus and financial concerns with being laid off from work. We had so many emergency surgeries that we hardly noticed. Saturday and Monday and Tuesday morning we saw the slowdown. Tuesday afternoon? Three dog-fights and a hit-by-car. We were still working at 7:30. Thank you to my great staff for hanging in there.
This is Homer looking pretty good in post-op, still on his IV fluids and pain meds. He had gotten pretty dehydrated after a few days of vomiting. Most of the dogs I've seen with intestinal foreign objects have not vomited much. Homer vomited a LOT. I'm just glad that ball was dense enough to show up on his X-rays.
