Long Veterinary Clinic 04.05.2021

Here is our current Covid 19 update procedures for Long Veterinary Clinic. We are still maintaining our curbside procedure. When owners arrive we have a window located near our front door that owners have the ability to check in and out from, you may also use this window for medication pick up, surgery check in, ect. We then have the owner wait with the pets in the car and a technician will come out to get the pet from the owner and go over any concerns that they will like th...e Doctor to review. We at this time do not let owners into the building UNLESS it is for end of life care of their lovely pet. If you do come in for an end of life appointment you are required to wear a mask, and have your temperature taken to enter the building. All staff at Long Veterinary Clinic takes their temperature every day coming into work and check their temperatures at home. If they have any COVID symptoms or have had exposure they are required to quarantine, and have a negative test to return back to work. Our management follows all Clay County Health updates and we update our policy for empolyee's daily for the best security measure. We understand these are trying times for all clients and our staff. We are doing this for the best safety of everyone involved and strive daily to maintain the highest safety protocol during this new time. We are very thankful that these procedures have work so far and that we have not had to shut down our facility for quarantine so we are able to continue to provide quality, affordable, and emergency care to all our clients whether lifetime or new. We thank everyone who has been understanding during this time and want everyone to know pets are actually doing phenomenal with everything considering. Our technicians sit in the room with your pet until the Doctor comes in normally feeding treats and loving on them to make them feel comfortable. We have actually seen an improvement in a lot of long time patients being comfortable with this style as they connect with the staff more and not needing the ability to protect their owner in the room. We have multiple types and styles of treats in the room, and some of your kiddos also like to show off some of their awesome tricks and eating up the attention. We hope to get back soon to some normalcy just as everyone else, and keep looking towards the future that this will soon pass and we can get you guys back in the clinic with your pets! Thank you everyone again from all the staff at Long Veterinary Clinic.

We are thoroughly grateful for everyone that helps us find adopt a pets a furever home, but with adopting a dog evening if not from us have you ever heard of the 3-3-3 Rule? Adopting a dog is a great task and it takes a while for the new pet to adjust to a home. You will never know the full history normally of the adopted pet, there will be some training involved as well but with time and patience they can become a forever best friend. The first 3 days with your new pet in t...he home you may notice this once bouncy, happy dog you seen at the shelter is all of a sudden acting scared, lack of confidence, and not wanting to interact much with the family. Give them this time to decompress, learn the new lay out, and check things out at their own time. Don't push them, we promise they will seek your attention again with time! With in 3 weeks your new family companion will start to feel comfortable, they will begin to let their guard down, become more playful, and you will see sparks of their personality arising. You will possibly see some behavioral issues arise such as chewing up things, jumping up on furniture and people, ect. This is where training comes in as important part of their transition. Please do not give up on them at this time, and remember they may of never learned that this is not a desired trait as a puppy before they came to your home. Teach them what is an appropriate behavior and know you can reach out for help if needed. Do not be afraid to ask for help! The 3 month mark the new family member is normally fully comfortable in the home. You guys have a new routine and can read each other a lot easier. Their personality is shining through and you laugh at their quarks. Enjoy your new lifetime friend that has now become one with the family! Just remember everything takes time, all rescues greatly appreciate everyone who takes the time to help a rescue pet. Some just had not found the right home yet before, some came from terrible situations. But, just like humans it is not our history that defines us, it is what you grow into that does. And with the help of people that adopt a furkid, you can help that pet become an amazing example of a success story!

Does everyone remember Burg our recent Great Pyrenees mix Adopt A Pet? Just a little bit of an update on the kiddo. This poor guy started to have behavioral issues at the clinic. We did not feel comfortable adopting him out to anyone with other pets, and felt he needed a facility that could work with him a bit. He was still very much puppy, but didn't quite understand his size. The poor guy was going stir crazy in the kennel so we found another rescue that works specifically ...with his breed where he will have a better chance at finding a forever home! One of our workers drove a little over a 6 hour round trip last Friday on her day off to meet the other rescue so he gets a better chance. We are glad to say he did fantastic on the trip and actually slept most of the way. For half the ride he didn't even realize a baby was in the truck until she sneezed. We love our Adopt A Pet Program and appreciate all that applied for him, however some of the kiddos that come to our program don't fit in as well. However, we do not give up on them. Instead we find a better solution for them! Good luck Burg boy on your next adventure! Check out his Freedom Ride pictures below.

Say hello to this Hunka, Hunka, Big Oh FLUFF! This is Burg man, as he is as cool as an iceburg. We got a big fellow here in our program looking for his forever home! Burg is only a year old, around 95 pounds of floof-tastic Great Pyrenees. This guy loves to play with other dogs, and gallop through the yard. As you can see here he thoroughly enjoyed playing in the snow as well. He is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, heartworm negative, and current on flea and tick... medication. His adoption fee is $50.00. If interested in Burg please follow the link below to fill out an adoption application: https://form.jotform.com/70246833595160 **NO MEET AND GREETS WILL BE DONE UNTIL APPLICATIONS ARE GONE THROUGH. WE GO THROUGH THEM AND CHOOSE AN APPROPRIATE HOME BASED ON APPLICATIONS AND WHEN THEY COME IN. THIS WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS!!!***
