Lullaby of Hope

Has someone ever opened up to you about their loss or grief? It can be uncomfortable and you may not know what to say. Friends, from my experience having journeyed through loss and also having been around many people who have gone through similar journeys here’s a short list of what to say (or not say): 1. Listen. Before you say anything listen. Let your loved one vent. They want to feel seen and heard. 2. Avoid cliches. Nothing you say is going to take away the pain they’re... in, but sometimes it could add to it. Thank them for trusting you to share in their grief. Acknowledge their feelings and offer them your love, support and prayers. Keep the advice to a minimum- at least for now. 3. Offer to do something rather than asking what can I do? Provide a meal or offer to clean their house. 4. Check in. Ask how they are feeling. Let them know you are thinking about them and praying for them. 5. Send them our gift!
