New Altas 40' Rebuilt and 53' Well Cars have arrived at www.midwestmodelrr.com In the 2000s intermodal containers came in a large variety of shapes and sizes. Common containers in that time ranged from 20’, 28’, 40’, 45’, 48’ and 53’ . This much variety was deemed inefficient by railroads and trucking companies alike in the early part of this decade. Today the most common containers are either 20’, 40’ and 53’. With the phasing out of the once popular 48’ containers, TTX had ...little need for their 48’ well cars. These cars were still rather new, most built in the mid to late 1990s. So instead of scrapping cars that were in serviceable condition, TTX opted to start a rebuilding program in which the 48’ well cars were shortened to 40’s and/or lengthened to 53’s. Features: Die-cast body Detailed brake lines Detailed air reservoir Separate hand grabs Etched metal walks Minimum radius: 12 1/2

Kato N Scale Gunderson MAXI-IV Double Stack Cars have arrived at www.midwestmodelrr.com. The powerful appearance of this articulated car will be achieved using a metal injection-molded frame, enhanced by the extensive detail of piping and patterned running boards. Like the prototype, the model will feature two different sized wheels! The two end trucks will have 33 scale wheels while the two middle trucks will have 38 scale wheels. (This is done on the prototype for weight bearing reasons, with the greater weight of the load being borne by the wheels of the mid-car trucks than by the wheels of the trucks on each end.)

Just Arrived, Athearn N Scale Pullman Standard 4427 Covered Hoppers at www.midwestmodelrr.com Pullman-Standard dominated the covered hopper car market beginning in the 1950s, thanks to the design success of their PS-2 series of covered hoppers. In 1964 the 4427 cubic foot capacity covered hoppers were introduced. PS responded to increasing demand for efficiency by the railroads and shippers alike, carrying more per trip then the 40’ boxcars with the signode grain door. Designed to carry bulk commodities, such as grain, these cars roamed the rails of North America for decades, attesting to their utilitarian functionality. These cars can still be seen today in service
