The Mississippi County Courthouse will close at Noon on Friday, April 2nd for Good Friday.
The Assessor's Office is now open.
The Mississippi County Assessor's office will not be opening at 8am today. I've been told by reliable sources that the roads are dangerous this morning. I'm not risking my staff or myself. I will reassess (see what I did there?!) the situation later and if the roads get cleared, I will open the office and post the hours we'll be open. The entire courthouse is NOT closed. I suggest calling ahead for whichever office you are needing. Sorry for any inconvenience. Have a good day and stay safe and warm!!

Hey everyone.....2nd notice reminders for 2020 Personal Property Assessments went in the mail yesterday. If you haven't rrturned yours yet, please try to do so. If you have misplaced your original form, call the Assessor's office and we'll help you over the phone. You can still mail them back to us, or if you want to bring your completed list to the office, just slide it under the door. I'll be there to get it. Or, just drop it in the Collector's drop box at the North door of the courthouse. Those ladies will make sure we get it!! Thanks for taking the time to get these turned in. I really don't want to give anyone a Late Filing penalty!! Have a wonderful day!!

Ok. I saw the update about the Scott County Covid-19 positive diagnosis. But, We're still taking every precaution. There are several employees at the courthouse who have compromised immune systems. At this time, it's only the Assessor's office that has chosen to close to the public. We are still happy to help with anything you might need.....but we're doing it by phone, fax, or email. We'll even talk to you through our little window......but no coming into the office for the foreseeable future. We realize we "work for you", but our health and well being are just as important as everyone else's. Thank you for understanding.
Here's all our email addresses and the direct line phone number and fax number.

We want to let everyone know that as of right now, the Mississippi County Assessor's office is open for regular business hours. However, we are encouraging the public to not come into the office unless it is absolutely necessary. We are sanitizing our office and doing everything we can to keep our employees and the public safe. If you have business with the Assessor's office, we suggest calling the office first to see if we can handle it over the phone or by fax or email. If the situation changes and we decide to close the office to the public, we will make an announcement at that time. Please follow the guidelines set out by the CDC and the State Health Department. We want everyone safe and healthy. Thank you.

Thank you.
The post about the Bond Issue was made just as a reminder as to why there would be increases on many people's tax bill this year. However, there are other reasons for increases. Many taxing jurisdictions increase the rates some years, and odd numbered years are Reassessment years for Real Estate Property. If you purchased a newer model vehicle in 2018, your Personal Property tax will increase in 2019. There are many reasons for your tax bill to increase (or even decrease) from year to year. If you aren't sure why your bill isn't quite what you were expecting, please call the office and let us look it up and talk with you about it. We are always glad to explain how the process works and to double check to make sure everything is correct. Have a wonderful day and stay warm!!
The 2019 Tax bills are starting to arrive in the mail, and I just wanted to post a courtesy reminder for the taxpayers in the R-2 School district...... your bills are going to reflect the increase from the Bond Issue that was voted in back in April. If anyone has any questions, please call the Assessor's Office or the Collector's Office and we will be happy to assist you!

Just a quick reminder about what role the Assessor's office has in the process that produces the Real Estate and Personal Property tax bills...... The Assessor's office is responsible for placing an Assessed Value on any taxable property. We get values for Personal Property mostly from NADA for cars, trucks, SUV's, semi trucks, boats, motorcycles, ATV/UTV's, commercial vehicles, etc. The value of Real Estate structures and land is determined by specific criteria such as squar...e footage, construction units, lot size, etc. The "value" of your property does not change because of a bond issue or any other type of Tax increase. That is a separate process that is done after the Assessor verifies the Tax Book Values. The Assessor's office has no control over nor do we have any input in the total amount of the tax bill. If you have any questions about your property values or about anything I have said in this post, please contact the Assessor's office and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you. See more
The 2nd notice postcards for the 2019 Assessment lists have been mailed. We understand that calling the office is more convenient and is necessary in some cases But......we still prefer to have a list with your signature on it. If you have your list from January, please sign it and either mail it or bring it to the office. If you need a new one printed, we can do that too. But having an original signature is best for everyone. Thank you!!
Hey y'all!! I need them 2019 Assessment Lists!! If you can't find the original, come by or call the office and we'll print you another one and get you taken care of!! Late filing penalties will have to be applied soon.........

For everyone's convenience, we have placed a folder on the Assessor's office door that can be used to drop off Completed Assessment forms. The office is closed from 12pm to 1pm for lunch, but now you can come in the courthouse and drop your signed Assessment form in the folder. If you need any help completing your form, you can come in or call and we will be glad to assist you!!!
