Lots of music will entertain you Friday evening, February 28, at the annual Carol Marcks Benefit Concert at Fort Osage HS at 7pm., presented by MAI. A raffle and silent auction will also have lots to offer, including Chiefs, Royals and Mavericks items, jewelry, gift cards, an Aladdin basket and much more. Hear the harp, jazz and percussion ensembles, VHHS chamber choir, FOHS Touch of Class, Young MAIsterSingers, trombone choir and soloists! Tickets are $7 at the door.
The Young MAIsterSingers performed the national anthem at the Kansas City Mavericks game on February 1. They sang beautifully and wore RED MAI t-shirts! The Mavs were honoring the Chiefs that night!
An amazing Christmas Concert was performed yesterday by MAI students at First Christian Church in Independence. More than 350 attended to hear the Young MAIsterSingers, the high school chamber choir, the harp, percussion and jazz ensembles and honor soloists. Today the MAIsters sang in the Mayor’s Christmas Concert.
A beautiful Music/Arts Institute Christmas concert will be performed Saturday afternoon, December 7, 3pm, at First Christian Church, Independence. The harp ensemble, percussion ensemble and new jazz ensemble will perform along with the Young MAIsterSingers, the high school chamber choir and honor vocalists. Free admission! And if you are on the Independence Square Friday evening, the jazz ensemble will be in a live window! On Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm, the MAIsters will be in the Independence Mayor’s Christmas Concert at Community of Christ Auditorium.
Music/Arts Institute received $7,700 in grants today from Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Presented at the 24th annual grants luncheon, $5,000 is from the Jelley Family Foundation with additional funding from the KC Metro Men’s Chorus and the Hand-in-Hand Foundation. The total amount will be used for student scholarships to take music lessons. Our thanks to THCF!
The fall honors recital at Music/Arts Institute on November 9 showcased vocalists, pianists and instrumentalists. Nominated by their teachers the students performed in the recital hall to a standing room only audience.
Truman Heartland Community Foundation sponsored a wonderful Behind the Scenes event at Music/Arts Institute on Thursday evening. More than 60 attended and enjoyed appetizers provided by Ophelia’s. Guests could visit lessons, tour the former school building, hear the beautiful harp ensemble and listen to the energetic Young MAIsterSingers perform!
The All-District Choir Clinic was conducted this morning at MAI. More than 30 high school students were adjudicated by three instructors, and they also attended a session on sight singing. This is in preparation for the Kansas City Metro Area All-District auditions soon!
Long-time MAI instructor Elena Korchak was invited to play the newly acquired 150-year-old piano at the Vaile Mansion last Sunday. Dr. Korchak has taught piano at MAI for 23 years!
Two weeks of lessons have taken place at MAI in the new musical year. A jazz ensemble has been organized in addition to harp and percussion ensembles. Private lessons in voice, piano and instrumentals can be started anytime! Call 816-836-1998, Monday-Thursday!
Suzuki violin will be offered this year at Music/Arts Institute for children, ages three and older. Lessons will be taught by Dr. Chun-Chien Chuang, concertmaster of the St. Joseph (MO) Symphony. Students will receive a weekly private lesson with group lessons added. Please call MAI at 816-836-1998, Monday-Thursday, for details and enrollment appointments.
