Redeemer is already planning for the 2022 LCMS Youth Gathering (formerly known as the National Youth Gathering)! Every 3 years the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod hosts a week long gathering for kids entering high school - recently graduated seniors. Tens of thousands of kids gather to learn more about their faith, serve, and have a great time! Redeemer will be hosting an informational meeting to discuss the 2022 Gathering in Houston, TX on March 21st from 1-2 p.m. The meeting will be hosted at the Springfield campus. The meeting is for students in 7th - 12th grade and their parents. You do not have to be Lutheran to attend.

Yesterday, the 3rd grade class at SLS led us in chapel. As we go through the Lenten season, they helped us reflect on the events leading to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. There will be no in-person classes tomorrow, Thursday, February 17th, due to poor road conditions. SLS WILL be having Virtual Learning on Thursday, February 17th. Students who are able to attend are strongly encouraged to do so. Your child's teacher will send you information about what virtual learning will look like. Springfield Lutheran School is looking for Extended Care childcare providers five days a week from 2:45 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Candidates should be able to be at school no later than 2:45 p.m. They should also be willing to engage with children, monitor student safety, be assertive, and be able to enforce rules. NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17 and VIRTUAL LEARNING QUESTIONS After considering the upcoming weather forecast, the possibility of ongoing electrical rolling blackouts, and the continual low temperatures, Springfield Lutheran School will have no school on Wednesday, February 17th. The safety of your child, and your family, are our top priorities. A few key items to note: *City Utilities continues to share that blackouts are fluid. They are unable to guarantee that power outa...ges will come with advanced warning, or that locations are not subject to multiple outages. We do not want to risk children being in the building with no heat during these cold temperatures, and feel it is best for children to remain with their parents until we know these power cut threats have passed. *Tomorrow's snow day (Wednesday, Feb. 17) will be our last "free" snow day. Any other days out of school from Thursday on will be marked as "Virtual Learning" days. We hope to be able to have school on Thursday, but will continually monitor the situation. *Virtual Learning days will also be fluid. We are aware that families are experiencing both power and internet outages. Children will not be penalized for any times they are unable to join virtual lessons or activities. *Teachers may not have internet or power at home. We will notify you if your child's teacher is unable to provide Virtual Learning for any reason. *Hot lunch orders are not charged for days that school is canceled. You will not be billed for hot lunch orders on days when the entire school is canceled. Charges are still made for food ordered on days when a child is out due to illness.

MPORTANT - Parent/Teacher Conference Update We recently learned that there was a potential COVID-19 exposure risk at SLS. Classes directly impacted by this exposure risk have been contacted through FastDirect and Seesaw. We praise God that the child is doing relatively well, and has been diligent about both masking and staying home when there was a health concern. Given this recent development, we are turning our parent/teacher conferences scheduled for this week into vir...tual or phone conferences. Your child's teacher will be contacting you with information about how to join them via Zoom or telephone, at the same date and time that you were originally scheduled to meet in person. While we know that meeting together is very important, we also prioritize the health and safety of our parents, students, and employees. We will always err on the side of caution to avoid putting anyone at risk. Thankfully, we have access to technology that still allows us to remain connected, while maintaining safe practices. We would like to encourage our families to be safe and smart about any Fall/Halloween community activities coming up. To provide our in-person students with a safe, fun Fall activity, SLS will be hosting a Fall Festival during school hours on Friday, October 30th. The fall festival will be open to SLS in-person students only. Students are invited to wear purple from head to toe to celebrate SLS spirit. Classes will then participate in some safe, fun games outside and will receive treats to take home. It's time to sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences! You will find a sign up time for each classroom posted outside of the school office. When it is less windy, we will also hang it up outdoors to help avoid crowded situations. All parents are welcome to enter the hallway in front of the office to sign up. We will have pens available, but feel free to bring your own pen if you are concerned about germs. Families may also choose to email their teacher with their preferred times, if you would rather not enter the building. Virtual meetings are available. The sign up sheets will be posted through October 22nd.
