While your home or office might be a priority for the spring cleaning madness, one place you shouldn’t neglect to clean is your car.

With a majority of vehicle owners living in areas of the country that have stay-at-home orders, many vehicles may be sitting idle for days or weeks at a time. The non-profit Car Care Council recommends starting your car at least once a week and keeping up with routine auto care to help prevent potential maintenance issues.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, automotive repair IS considered an essential business and is needed for the continuity of critical infrastructure for the safety of public health. We will be limiting the number of people inside our waiting area to a 2 person maximum. We recommend: 1. Having someone take you home and bring ...you back (ideally someone who is safe for you to be around like a family member you reside with or someone you have already been in close contact with). 2. If you have to stay, bring a folding chair and find a nice spot to sit outside. You might also consider sunscreen and a good book or magazine. 3. As always, stay at least 6 ft from anyone you encounter including our staff and checkout window. 4. While inside the building, wear a mask if you have one. National Car Care Month in April is the perfect time for simple driveway car care to make sure your vehicle is operating safely and dependably for essential trips during this trying time, says the Car Care Council.

You need clean air to breathe and so does your car, and a vehicle’s air filters make that possible. The non-profit Car Care Council reminds car owners to have the engine and cabin air filters inspected and changed regularly to ensure vehicle longevity and interior comfort.

PLEASE READ: The coronavirus pandemic is affecting small businesses all across the US and the world. From loss of business to remote work, things are changing rapidly. Businesses are forced to adapt or shut down. We do not want to shut our doors. We want to remain open so our employees can still provide for their families, we want to remain open so we can serve our community, we want to remain open so we can pay our own bills. We know your life has not come to a halt either.... You’re stocking up, driving to doctor appointments, maybe delivering meals to the elderly. Doing all of those things is wear and tear on your vehicle, oil changes, tires, etc. We are committed to staying open and providing those services. PLEASE help us keep our employees safe. We are implementing procedures to help you stay safe as well. 1. When we call you to say your vehicle is ready for pickup, have a credit/debit card handy to pay over the phone. If you can’t pay over the phone, we can send you a PayPal invoice that you can pay through your bank account (if previously verified and set up). 2. We will place your receipt and other paperwork inside your vehicle along with your keys. You can pick up your vehicle without any face to face interaction and without coming inside our lounge. 3. If you need to ask a question about your service, CALL. We have 2 phone lines and they will be open and Jason is available to answer all questions. 4. If you’re dropping off a vehicle for service and it’s during business hours, call to let us know you’re coming. We will either meet you outside, keeping at least 6 feet between each person OR we will direct you to just drop it off at the front door and leave the key inside. 5. If you’re dropping a vehicle off after hours, we have a ziplock bag on the table out front with an after hours envelope in it. You can fill it out, put your keys in it and drop it in the black mailbox across from our drive. It’s a larger size mailbox with a slit in it that locks. Your keys are safe in there. Your safety is our priority. The safety of your vehicle is also our priority. We will act swiftly to obtain possession of your vehicle and get the keys inside. At this point, we all need to be cautious. We want to minimize the foot traffic inside our lounge. If you’re reading this, please take it seriously and don’t assume it doesn’t apply to you. To Our Valued Customers: With the recent COVID-19 guidance from the CDC, Smitty’s Garage wants you to know we too are practicing good social distancing protocols to help minimize any risk to our customers or employees. We understand that caution is a requirement to ensure we help mitigate risk. As it may still be necessary for you to get your vehicles serviced, we want to help you minimize risk with our store interactions. A few key points that can help you when you need serv...ice: 1. If you are sick, or have a sick family member at home and you MUST come to the shop: Please let staff know so they can take precautions by wiping down the steering wheel, controls, etc before and after the service. 2. Minimize your time in the wait area by arranging for someone to pick you up and return you to the shop later in the day (if possible). 3. If you have a question or need a quote, please call or email the shop instead of coming by. This will reduce face-to-face interactions, reducing the risk for all involved. 4. If you do need to cancel your appointment, please call ahead and let us know. We need to all work together to minimize the risk for ourselves and our families. By taking these precautions, we are able to continue to provide our service to the community. If our employees are affected by a sick customer, we will be forced to slow the service we provide.
