Auditions for our spring production, Cinderella for ages 12+ en pointe are tomorrow from 7:00-9:00 PM at The Creamery Arts Center. Auditions are open to boys and girls that are enrolled in a dance technique class (does not have to be at Springfield Ballet). Please note all students, faculty and support personnel will be required to wear a face mask during auditions, rehearsals and all times backstage. No one would say 2020 was fun, and probably no one is sad that it is done. But it did teach us a thing or two, like how to work Zoom and that anywhere can be a classroom. We learned more about our families than we could ever imagine, and how to dance in a mask to get back to our passion.... Things certainly aren't normal, but we have persevered and adapted, finding talents untapped and ways to stay distracted. So as we revise our holiday traditions, remember to celebrate all the little things, and remain on mission. We have left 2020, and are looking forward to the time when we can return to activities aplenty. Pre-Ballet classes are designed for 5-7 year-olds to prepare them to begin their ballet journey. This hour-long class combines concepts from Creative Movement in greater complexity that challenges young dancers to clarify their movements and expression. Barre work and ballet terminology are introduced, while listening skills and spatial awareness continue to be developed. We are excited to announce our Spring 2021 Childrens' Workshop series. On February 21 we begin with Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella is on March 28. The Childrens' Workshops are a great way to introduce boys and girls ages 3-8 to the ballet through an afternoon that includes dancing, crafts, games, a synopsis of the ballet and a meet and greet with characters. No dance experience is needed.... Face masks will be required for all participants and faculty. Each workshop is $20 per child or attend both for $32. Registration opens today and space is limited. In the final scene the residents of the Land of Sweets fade away along with the Nutcracker Prince, and Clara awakens in her living room clutchung her nutcracker Christmas gift. Clara wonders, "was it all just a dream?" But she delights in the magical adventure and the joy her Nutcracker and the season provide anyway.... Staff Highlight: Ashley Walden, Executive Director As Executive Director Ashley provides the leadership for the business side of our organization including such tasks as event execution, fundraising and daily operations. 2020 has been especially challenging for not-for-profit and arts organizations. But Ashley has risen to the occasion and with the support of the rest of the staff and faculty has managed the impact to funding and activities from the current pandemic finding w...ays to safely move forward and continue bringing the art of ballet to our students and community. Learn more about Ashley in her bio below. Ashley is proud to call Springfield, Missouri her forever home. She attended Glendale High School, where she played on the girls soccer team, enjoyed being a peer mediator, was published in her school’s art magazine, and received accolades in journalism and art at graduation. After high school, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at Drury University, with minors in Fine Arts and Global Studies. While at Drury, she was the public relations leader for Students in Free Enterprise, who won the SIFE World Cup in 2003. Ashley was also an Executive Committee member for two years in Pi Beta Phi fraternity. Ashley joined Springfield Ballet in 2017 after serving three years as Director of Operations with United Way of the Ozarks. She enjoys volunteering for several local organizations including Springfield Ballet Guild and Sporting Springfield Soccer Club. She is a member in Rotary of Springfield Southeast and classmate of Leadership Springfield Class 33. With a deep appreciation of arts, Ashley made her acting debut as the Maid in the 2016 performance of Springfield Ballet’s The Nutcracker.
