Students at the University of Central Missouri, you can now complete your law degree one year faster thanks to a collaborative agreement between UCM and UMKC. The agreement will allow UCM students from all majors to participate in the Three + Three Program, allowing them to apply for law school admission after completing their junior year. The final student veteran we are spotlighting today is Jacob Sorenson. Jacob served in the U.S. Navy from 1999-2012 and is now focusing his legal studies on business/entrepreneurial law and advocacy. Fun fact about Jacob: before he enlisted in the Navy, he had never even seen the ocean in person.

The next student veteran that we are spotlighting is Eric Honea. Eric is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. During his deployment in Somalia, he had a first-hand experience with the struggles of developing nations. The experience shaped his desire to help others and piqued his interest in human and civil rights and international law.

In honor of Veterans Day, we are spotlighting three of our many student veterans. The first is Kathleen Kegley. Kathleen served in the U.S. Army from 2014 to 2017. While at UMKC, she drew from her military experience and wrote a published comment in the UMKC Law Review on the constitutionality of male-only selective service registration. She is pursuing a career in public interest law so she can continuing serving her country and community.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced yesterday the appointment of UMKC Law Alumna Melissa Taylor Standridge to the Kansas Supreme Court. Justice Standridge is a 1993 graduate of UMKC Law (where she was Editor-in-Chief of the UMKC Law Review, Moot Court Chief Justice, Legal Writing Teaching Assistant, and more) and a previous Judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. Gov. Parson recently appointed the Honorable Sarah A. Castle as Circuit Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit. Judge Castle is a 2012 graduate of UMKC Law and previously served as an assistant prosecutor, a special assistant United States attorney, and an Associate Circuit Judge.
