Service-learning takes volunteering to a whole new level. While serving, YVC volunteers learn about community needs, what contributes to them, and ways to positively impact change. These volunteers are able to take this knowledge and help others understand and serve the unmet needs of their community. Let Brianna, YVC volunteer and member of our International Youth Advisory Board, tell you more about food deserts and how you can help.

Be true to yourself and find ways to activate your natural abilities. Sometimes, the things that make us special or give us the most advantage are less recognizable as strengths. Enjoy this blog from Allison about the power of being an introvert. When I felt like I had no one, YVC gave me someone. YVC is the perfect place for anyone and everyone. -Alison, YVC Volunteer

Emma, a YVC volunteer and member of our International Youth Advisory Board, takes a moment to think about the past year and ask a question many of us have pondered, The question becomes, how can we remain connected and feel connected in an age where we are required to stay 6 feet apart?

Youth Volunteers often tell us about how they evolve during their years of service. They learn new things about themselves and their community, while developing skills that will propel them forward. Rachel, a volunteer with YVC Calgary, AB, hosted by Youth Central, shared with us how she has grown through volunteering and that she plans to live a life full of service.

Youth leaders are crucial to the YVC network! By working as a team, youth find creative ways to serve community needs. Our youth advisory board helps come up with ideas that are meaningful to the youth, May said. When we were talking about this idea, they were quite excited about it.

We signed the pledge. Will you? "We as youth activists and leaders have come together as a family to lift each other up, share moments of joy as well as hardship and create the sense of community that we want to see across the globe. With input from each of us, we have built a platform to be heard and I hope that this is only the beginning of something even greater to follow." - Karleigh, youth volunteer with Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading

At YVC, we value the relationships we have throughout the network. This means we have a pool of highly invested youth development leaders who are there for each other. Over the years, we have spent time talking about recruitment, fundraising, and best practices. While these are all good reasons to collaborate, sometimes we need something more fundamental. Sometimes we need a friend to say, you can do this.

Mark your calendars! On September 17, the 15 and Mahomies Foundation will hold a star-studded, virtual event celebrating Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes’ 25th birthday and raising funds for 15 charitable organizations. YVC is one of these beneficiaries! In addition to Patrick Mahomes and some of his teammates, there will also be appearances from Paul Rudd and music legend Quincy Jones. The celebration is free to attend and we invite you to pass along details to your friends and family. Thank you, 15 and Mahomies, for your generosity.

WOW! Take a look this project by Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading. It’s great to see youth from all over Berks come together, safely, to build the boardwalk and further enhance Rock Hollow’s ability to educate. said Lindsay Sites, Program Director for Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading. We are excited that YVC of Reading can bring these types of service-learning opportunities to students in Berks County.
