Today is Purple Thursday, an awareness day in National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Though Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri is not a domestic violence shelter, many of our clients are survivors of domestic violence. The sad truth is more than 36 percent of Missouri women will experience domestic violence at the hands of an intimate partner in their lifetime.... We all can help put an end to domestic violence by bringing awareness about the issue. At Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, we stand with the survivors and families of victims of domestic violence. https://ncadv.org/STATISTICS #PurpleThursday #DVAM #DVAM2020
The 2020-2021 flu season began October 1st. At Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, we work to protect the health of our staff and clients. For example, all staff working at the Monastery main office and LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home, located adjacent, must obtain a flu vaccination to enter the premises. This is done to protect pregnant mothers and babies. To date, all babies and expectant mothers have escaped COVID-19. This year's flu vaccine is the possibly the most i...mportant ever due to the pervasiveness of the pandemic and evidence that outcomes for patients stricken by both simultaneously are significantly worse. For this reason, we encourage everyone to #SleeveUp and #FightFlu this year. This is a good time for everyone to get their flu vaccination shot, especially since most people require up to two weeks to benefit from it. Your health care provider can help you obtain it. You can also contact your local pharmacy or county health department to learn if they have the flu vaccination shot in stock, or learn where you can obtain it. #CCSOMOLife PICTURE: LifeHouse Nurse Kristen Morgan completes paperwork for a flu vaccination and administers the shot to Chief Development Officer Mandy Long at the Monastery office of Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri in Springfield, October 19, 2020. We've been working hard to provide services through this pandemic. As part of the agency's commitment to ensure essential services are delivered to the poor and vulnerable, and people impacted by COVID, the leadership of CCSOMO has worked diligently to adapt. Agency leadership met again last week, virtually, to continue this serious work. Certainly, no one can doubt 2020 has been a tough year, yet it's essential that we find joy where ever we can, even in small moments such as a light-hearted staff photo which we present for your amusement. #CCSOMOlife

The 2020 Roadkill & Rosé Wild Game Feast is done and in the history books now. Though social distancing resulted in an entirely different experience than the inaugural edition last year, guests and vendors had a great time, especially enjoying the music of Andy Avery and a rare opportunity these days for camaraderie. KFVS-TV was on hand to tell the story. Thank you for being there, and thank you to all who supported this even in Cape Girardeau. We'll meet up again next year, same month, same place. We'll also launch a Joplin version of Roadkill & Rosé in 2021. Stay tuned!
The people have spoken! It was a close race in both the food and beverage categories at the 2nd Annual Roadkill & Rosé! The People's Choice in Beverage went to Main Street Station who offered flavorful daiquiris and margaritas at the event. Mary Jane Bourbon and Smokehouse took home the trophy in the food category with their offering of smoked bison meatballs with a stone fruit glaze. Many thanks to all of our vendors! We are looking forward to see what they come up with for next year!
Nearly 100 babies have been born so far to LifeHouse residents since opening on December 27, 2013. It's rare however that we can celebrate one of our own staff giving birth. We are very pleased to introduce the baby of Lindsey Masterson. #HelloBaby! ... Lindsey has been working at LifeHouse since April 2018 as Family Strengthening Coordinator. We are overjoyed for her! Congratulations Lindsey!
